DO PEOPLE AND FAMILIES IMPACTED BY ADDICTION NEED ADVOCACY?
Summer 2020, Iowa Avenue. Between Atlantic and Arctic. Across from Atlantic City Police Department. Down the street from Tony's Baltimore Grill. Recovery Force volunteer comes upon an apparent overdose and calls 911.
First responders on the scene. No apparent attempt to determine the severity of this person's condition and certainly no attempt to reverse what was an overdose using Narcan.
More assistance arrives, including paramedics. Still no urgency to attend to the young man who needs help not contempt. This is what others placing a value on the lives of a group of people means. History has shown us that if they can, they will try. History also shows us that advocacy organizations can stop this.
